More than 14,587 gallons of paint diverted from Yonkers’ waste stream since 2022!
PaintCare recently notified the City that our paint recycling program has collected that much leftover paint for reuse, recycling or proper disposal. To put the milestone in perspective, that’s enough paint to cover approximately 5.8 million square feet—the equivalent of about 101 football fields, including the end zones—with a single coat. This illustrative comparison assumes 400 square feet of coverage per gallon; actual coverage varies.
Every can brought to the program helps keep leftover paint out of the regular waste stream. Reuse and recycling help conserve resources, while proper disposal helps protect our waterways from paint chemicals that could enter the environment through improper disposal. Thank you to our Refuse Disposal Division for making this program possible, and to every resident who has participated. Those small drop-offs add up to a meaningful citywide result!
Have leftover paint from your next home cleanup? Yonkers Recycling Center 735 Saw Mill River Road
- Yonkers residents may drop off up to five gallons per visit, with one visit per day and a maximum of two days per week.
- Bring your driver’s license and vehicle registration with matching Yonkers addresses.
- Paint must be in sealed, original containers with the original manufacturer’s labels.
- Accepted products include latex and oil-based house paint and primers. Aerosol spray paints, paint thinner, and leaking, unlabeled or empty containers are not accepted through this program.
