Local 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the largest union in New York and the nation’s largest healthcare union, endorsed Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader in his re-election campaign. The union represents more than 450,000 healthcare workers in home care, nursing homes, hospitals, and clinics who have been on the frontlines throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Mike Khader is an experienced leader and a powerful voice for working people, and we’re proud to endorse his re-election campaign,” said Maurice Brown, Political Director for 1199 SEIU Hudson Valley/Capital Region. “As we continue to battle this pandemic and face the challenges ahead, we need leaders like Mike Khader to stand up for frontline healthcare workers, fight for access to high quality healthcare for all, and ensure an equitable recovery. Mike has stood with 1199 SEIU members from day one, and we look forward to continuing our work together.”
“Frontline healthcare workers have sacrificed so much throughout this pandemic, and it’s critical that we stand up for them with stronger protections, safer work environments, and support through this crisis and beyond,” said Khader. “I’m grateful for our incredible healthcare workers and honored to have the support of 1199 SEIU. I’ve spent my career fighting for the working families of Yonkers, and I’m ready to keep fighting alongside 1199 SEIU as we recover from this pandemic and build a stronger future here for all of us.”
