Who Are the 8 John Doe’s, Friends of Epstein-Maxwell?

“how does a “false memory” create a photograph?” asked Attorney David Boies, discussing the above photo of Prince Andrew, 17 year old Virginia Giuffre and Ghislaine Maxwell

Victim Virginia Guiffre Wants Names Made Public; Eight Very Anxious Men

By Dan Murphy

Two and a half years after Jeffrey Epstein died in a manhattan jail cell, the courtroom drama surrounding his sexual abuse of underage girls continues. On Dec. 29, 2021, Epstein’s key accomplice in his sexual crimes, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted in charges stemming from her role in finding teen age girls for Epstein.

Now facing life in prison, Maxwell, who is set to be sentenced in June, has agreed through her attorney, not to object to releasing the names of eight other men who were involved with Epstein, and who were named in a lawsuit against Prince Andrew. Until now, the names of the 8 John Doe’s were kept sealed and anonymous.

Maxwell, through her attorney Laura Menninger, writes, “After careful review of the detailed objections submitted by Non-Party Does 17, 53, 54, 55, 73, 93 and 151, counsel for Ghislaine Maxwell writes to inform the Court that she does not wish to further address those objections. Each of the listed Does has counsel who have ably asserted their own respective privacy rights. Ms. Maxwell therefore leaves it to this Court to conduct the appropriate review.”

Federal Judge Loretta Preska now must decide whether to release the names of the 8 John Doe’s. But with two of the eight not opposing having their names released to the public, it is really a question of whether the remaining 6 John Doe’s have a right to privacy.

Giuffre, through her attorney Sigrid McCawley (and David Boies) want the names released. “[G]eneralized aversion to embarrassment and negativity that may come from being associated with Epstein and Maxwell is not enough to warrant continued sealing of information. This is especially true with respect to this case of great public interest, involving serious allegations of the sex trafficking of minors. Now that Maxwell’s criminal trial has come and gone, there is little reason to retain protection over the vast swaths of information about Epstein and Maxwell’s sex-trafficking operation that were originally filed under seal in this case,” writes McCawley, who added that the court has already rejected similar legal claims for remaining anonymous. “it is apparent that their objections essentially mirror objections to unsealing that this Court has already rejected: that unsealing certain documents might be embarrassing, would expose non-parties to media attention, and could result in some unfortunate association between the non-parties and Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell.”

The names of the 8 John Doe’s come from a 2015 defamation lawsuit filed by Giuffre against Maxwell. That suit was settled but the names remain unknown. Their is rampant speculation as to who the mystery 8, or 6 are. One published report said that Prince Andrew could be one of the eight.

Giuffre is currently suing Prince Andrew in Federal Court in NY for sexual assault when she was 17.

Published reports claim that four of the John Doe’s–want to keep their names anonymous, wanting to avoide ‘annoyance and embarrassment,” and wanting “to live a private life.”

Two of the other anonymous, John Doe’s claim that exposing their names will result in ‘severe anxiety and distress,’ and ‘extreme personal, physical and reputational harm.’

Two John Doe’s state that a depostion in the Giuffre-Maxwell case which mentions their names is ‘unreliable.’

District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan ruled earlier this month that Giuffre’s case against Prince Andrew can continue despite the fact that Giuffre settled a different suit with Epstein for $500,000. Now that Judge Kaplan ruled that the case can continue, the Prince’s attorneys made a request for Giuffre’s mental health records, claiming that she is having “false memories,” regarding her claims of having sex with the Prince on three occassions in three different countries.

Giuffre’s lead attorney, Westchester resident David Boies, countered the claim, telling the Daily Mail, “‘This is exactly what Maxwell tried. It didn’t end well. People may misremember a lot of things, but they don’t misremember sexual abuse by a Prince of England. In addition, Prince Andrew needs to say that all the other people who saw them together also have “false memories”. And how does a “false memory” create a photograph?’
