Did the American Media Do Its Job? Intelligence Community Claims Also Debunked
By Dan Murphy
Politico reporter Ben Schreckinger’s new book “The Bidens: Inside the First Family’s Fifty-Year Rise to Power,” claims that the laptop computer of Hunter Biden’s that came to light in the final days of the 2020 election is indeed the device of the President’s son, and that conspiracy theories posed by former members of the intelligence community and the American media, that the laptop was part of a “Russian conspiracy” remain unproven.
The book is notable because it is written by a member of the mainstream American media. Schreckinger is a national reporter for Politico and is a former reporter for GQ and The Boston Globe. A Political column for Politico by Schreckinger titled “Biden Inc.” in 2019 was a prelude to this 2021 book.
Schreckinger told Politico reporter Ryan Lizza about his new book, “New developments kept arising. I kept getting new leads, new tips. Hunter Biden ended up being at the center of a presidential impeachment, and then at the center of this laptop saga that consumed the last couple weeks of the campaign…What I was able to find corroboration for was parts of the cache of files, including emails and other authentications.”
The book confirmed emails with persons who had independent access to Hunter Biden’s email, with some of the senders or recipients confirming that the emails were real. This includes a 2015 email from a Ukrainian businessman thanking Hunter for the chance to meet Joe Biden, and a 2017 email discussion about a business venture with a Chinese equity company.
Last year, former Hunter Biden confidant Tony Bobulinski, said that the phrase “10 Held by H” found in an email was genuine and referred to plans for Hunter to hold equity in the company for his father, President Joe Biden.
And emails released by a Swedish government agency also match emails in the leaked laptop cache, with two persons who exchanged emails with Hunter Biden confirming their authenticity.
While Schreckinger does not validate all the contents of the laptop, the new book and evidence points to more of a likelihood that it was Hunter Biden’s laptop than in was a plant placed by Russian intelligence for the effect of electing former President Donald Trump. The Russian conspiracy claim was supported in a letter by 50 former members of the US intelligence community.
Noted whistle blower and journalist Glen Greenwald Tweeted about the book. “New evidence on Monday proved what has long been clear: that documents about Joe Biden from the Hunter Biden laptop were authentic. Big Tech censorship in the weeks before the 2020 election of these genuine documents is one of the most severe assaults on free speech and a free election in years. That the corporate media was their key ally by endorsing and spreading the CIA lie that these documents were “Russian disinformation” makes this episode even more grave.“
“That story was brute censorship from the internet, about any discussion of a major story that was broken by the New York Post weeks before the election. There was enormous amounts of the same kind of confirmation early on, but they were ignored because they were coming from right-wing outlets, but now we have a mainstream reporter proving that the key emails were authentic all along. And the “former intelligence officials” who said the Hunter laptop story was Russian disinformation recently walked back their claim, now claiming that it “seemed like something the Russians would do,” said Greenwald, in a series of Tweets.
In an interview with CBS, this spring, when asked if he lost a laptop, Hunter Biden said, “Not that I can remember, and “Not that I know of,” but added the laptop left at a computer repair store and given to the FBI, “certainly” could be his.
Schreckinger also said that an ongoing federal investigation into Hunter Biden continues in Maryland.
