METS GM Busted for DWI in White Plains

Zack Scott

New York Mets Acting General Manager Zack Scott was found passed out in his car at 4am in downtown White Plains on Aug. 30. He was charged with DWI and other crimes by the White Plains Police Department.

Earlier that evening, Scott and a bus full of NY Mets players went to owner Steve Cohen’s house in Connecticut for a fund raising event. After that event, the Mets got back on the bus and returned to CitiField. Scott, 44, made a bad decison by drinking and driving, perhaps in one of the many pubs, bars and clubs that dot Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains.

Scott was found at 417 AM on South Lexington Avenue two blocks from the White Plains PD hedquarters. WPPD Captain James Spencer answered questions from the New York media when the news broke.

Scott refused to take a breathalyzer, (which means that he will be convicted of DWI.) and also took a field sobriety test and failed. He was also charged with other traffic offenses, including stopping on a highway, disobeying a traffic control device. He will appear in White Plains Court on Sept. 2.

The Mets issued a statement which read, “We were surprised and deeply disappointed to learn this morning about an alleged DUI involving Zack Scott. We take this matter very seriously. Zack will not be traveling with the team for our upcoming road trip while we learn more and determine next steps.

Several reports stated that Cohen’s fundraiser ended around 9pm, and the Mets and Scott left around that time. Seven hours later he was drunk and passed out in his car in downtown White Plains

Scott was the interim GM because the Mets GM Jared Porter was fired earlier in the year over allegations of sexual harassment before the season even started. “There should be zero tolerance for this type of behavior,” said owner Steve Cohen at the time.
