Mayor Mike’s Bike Drive Collects 30 Bikes for Kids

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and members of the Yonkers Police Department recently presented 30 bikes collected from this year’s Mayor Mike’s Youth Bike Drive to the WJCS Wiener Academy for Young Women, located at the Mary J. Blige Center for Women, which is an after-school program that assist girls who are in fourth through eighth grade succeed academically and socially. All 30 of the program participants received a bike and helmet.

“This could not have been done without the support of YPD, the YPD Office of Community Affairs (especially Laura Yakaboski), and all of those that donated,” said Spano. “Thank you for making this another successful Youth Bike Drive.”

Launched in 2012, Mayor Mike’s Bike Drive has collected and distributed more than 300 bikes, along with helmets, locks and other equipment, to Yonkers children in need. To donate to the bike drive, residents are encouraged to contact the YPD Community Affairs Division at 914-377-7375.
