Important position for Yonkers as State Considers Sports Betting

Assemblyman Nader Sayegh thanked Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie for his appointment to a key committee for the City of Yonkers: The Assembly Committee on Racing and Wagering. Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts and Yonkes Raceway is Yonkes largest private employer, and also provides millions of dollars to the Yonkers Public Schools every year.

“I will work closely with Committee Chair Gary Pretlow to ensure Yonkers is well represented on this committee which serves both as an oversight role and is tasked with making sure this important Yonkers employer continues to thrive,” said Assemblyman Sayegh.

The Committee on Racing and Wagering will play a major role as New York State considers a path forward in Mobile Sports Betting. Sayegh says he will actively advocate the State Legislature to approve Mobile Sport Betting and Table Gaming Legislation, which would provide for an extensive increase in State revenue for education, health care and a multitude of quality-of- life initiatives.

Local gaming and racing industry officials welcomed news of Sayegh’s appointment. “Empire City Casino is pleased to learn that Assemblyman Sayegh has been appointed to the Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee. He has demonstrated an acute understanding of the gaming and hospitality industry as a revenue generator for the state, as well as a job creator and economic engine for the region. We look forward to continuing to work with him to help Empire City reach its full potential,” said a spokesperson for Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts.

Joseph Faraldo, President of the Standardbred Owners Association based here in Yonkers said, “The Standardbred Owners Association would like to congratulate Assemblyman Nader Sayegh on his appointment to the Assembly Standing Committee on Racing and Wagering. We look forward to working with him and letting him know what we provide for all horsemen and women who race at Yonkers Raceway. It is nice to know that Nader has been a 60-year resident of Yonkers, the home of the historic Yonkers Raceway, which was founded in 1899.”

In addition to his appointment to the Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee, Sayegh continues to serve on the Banking, Cities, Education, Health and Real Property Tax Committees, and as a member of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus.
